Elastic deformation — practice question

A student carries out an investigation into the factors that influence the bend angle $\theta$ of a metal strip. The student puts a thin, straight metal strip on two supports and hangs a mass with weight $W$ from the strip’s midpoint. The strip bends, as shown in Fig. 4.1.

Plan an experiment to explore one variable that affects $\theta$. In your plan, you should: give a brief account of how the investigation will be done, including the method for measuring $\theta$; state which variables will be kept constant; draw one or more tables, complete with column headings, to show how the readings will be presented; explain how the readings will be used to reach a conclusion. You may include a diagram if you think it will improve your plan.
