Elastic deformation — practice question

A student uses the apparatus shown in Fig. 3.1 to produce an extension-load graph for a spring. The loads have known weights. The student hangs increasing loads from the spring and measures the extensions obtained. Fig. 3.2 shows the graph produced. The spring reaches its limit of proportionality at a load of $7.0\,\text{N}$.
(a)[1]

On Fig. 3.2, draw the graph’s outline for loads above $7.0\,\text{N}$.

(b)[2]

All loads are removed from the spring. A wooden block is then hung from the lower end of the spring. The spring length changes from $4.9\,\text{cm}$ to $13.4\,\text{cm}$. Calculate the weight of the wooden block.

(c)[2]

The student takes a second spring identical to the one in Fig. 3.1 and hangs it beside the first spring. Fig. 3.3 shows a light rod passing through the rings at the lower ends of the springs. The student repeats the experiment and increases the load gradually to $9.0\,\text{N}$. State and explain whether the limit of proportionality is reached.
