Work — practice question

A woman is doing work while lifting a flag by pulling the rope downwards. This is illustrated in Fig. 4.1.
(a)[2]

Define the term work done.

(b)[2]

The flag has a mass of $0.35\,\text{kg}$ and is lifted through $6.0\,\text{m}$. With $g=10\,\text{N kg}^{-1}$, Calculate the increase in gravitational potential energy of the flag.

(c)[2]

Suggest and explain why the work done on the rope is greater than the value obtained in (b).
