Mass and weight — practice question

Fig. 1.1 shows a waterskier being pulled sideways across the water surface. The waterskier has a mass of 60 kg. The gravitational field strength $g$ is $10\,\text{N kg}^{-1}$.
(a)[1]

Calculate the waterskier's weight.

(b)[2]

Mass and weight are measured in different units. State two more differences between mass and weight.

(c(i))[2]

A boat pulls the waterskier to the right with a horizontal force of $50\,\text{N}$. The waterskier moves at constant speed. Explain, in terms of the horizontal forces acting, why the speed remains constant.

(c(ii))[3]

The horizontal force to the right rises from $50\,\text{N}$ to $70\,\text{N}$. The magnitudes of the other forces do not change. Calculate the acceleration of the waterskier.
