Electromagnetic induction — practice question
Fig. 7.1 shows a straightforward setup for demonstrating electromagnetic induction. The coil is joined to two light-emitting diodes (LEDs). The magnet moves in and then out of the coil.
(a)[2]
Explain why an induced e.m.f. is produced in the coil as the magnet moves.
(b)[2]
Explain why one LED lights when the magnet moves into the coil, whereas the other LED lights when the magnet moves out of the coil.
(c)[1]
The LEDs are brighter when the magnet is moved faster. Explain why.
