Probability of combined events — practice question

(a)[1]

Adam has a bag with 9 balls, labelled from 1 to 9. Adam chooses a ball at random from the bag and then puts it back. Find the probability that the ball has an odd number.

(b(i))[1]

Adam takes a ball from the 9 balls in the bag, records the number and then replaces it. He then takes a second ball from the bag, records the number and replaces it again. Work out the probability that both numbers are odd.

(b(ii))[2]

Work out the probability that one number is odd and the other is even.

(c)[3]

Adam now takes two balls from the 9 balls in the bag, without replacement. Work out the probability that the two numbers are either both odd or both even.
