Exothermic and endothermic reactions — practice question

This question concerns the energy transfers that occur in chemical reactions.
(a)[5]

Nitrogen combines with oxygen to form nitrogen monoxide. The reaction absorbs energy. $\text{N}_2(g) + \text{O}_2(g) \rightarrow 2\text{NO}(g)$ Draw, on the axes provided in Fig. 6.1, the reaction pathway diagram for this reaction. Include labels for the axes, reactants, product, enthalpy change of reaction $\Delta H$ and activation energy, $E_a$.

(b)[3]

Hydrogen reacts with bromine to produce hydrogen bromide. $\text{H}-\text{H} + \text{Br}-\text{Br} \rightarrow 2\text{H}-\text{Br}$ Calculate the enthalpy change of this reaction. Use the bond energies in Table 6.1.
