Thermal properties and temperature — practice question
Three identical dishes, A, B and C, each hold the same volume of water. Dish A is outdoors in sunlight and has no wind blowing during the day. Dish B is outdoors in sunlight and is exposed to a strong wind during the day. Dish C is kept in a dark room.
Water evaporates from all three dishes. After 12 hours, a student measures the water volume in each dish. Dish C has the greatest volume of water left, while dish B has the least volume of water left.
(a)[4]
Explain, in terms of particles, why the three dishes contain different volumes of water.
(b)[2]
Define specific latent heat of vaporisation.
(c)[3]
Describe what happens in each of sections A, B, C and D.
