The north pole of a bar magnet is brought, one after the other, close to each end of a rod X. One end of the rod is repelled by the north pole, whereas the other end is attracted towards the north pole. The same experiment is done again using the bar magnet and a different rod Y, but this time both ends of the rod are attracted towards the north pole. What materials could rods X and Y be made of?
