Fig. 10.1 illustrates the suggested arrangement for charging the battery in an electric toothbrush. The toothbrush handle houses the battery and a coil X. The connection between coil X and the battery is not shown. Inside the charger base is a coil Y, wrapped around an iron core and linked to the a.c. mains supply. To recharge the battery, the handle is lowered until coil Y lies inside coil X. Fig. 10.1 indicates the required direction of the charging current at the battery.
