In Cairo, the capital city of Egypt, close to one million people live in crowded and unhealthy housing. Unemployment is one reason that many people are missing basic necessities, including adequate housing. In 2019, almost 10% of Cairo’s workers did not have a job. By contrast, some other people in Cairo live in luxury, in houses worth more than $1 million. Many of Cairo’s rich adults were brought up in rich families.
