There are three rhinoceros species in Asia. Fig. 4.1 depicts an Indian rhinoceros, Rhinoceros unicornis, inside a national park, watched by tourists who are travelling on an elephant. The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) gathers data on animal species and sorts them into categories according to estimated numbers. Table 4.1 gives a summary of the conservation status of the three rhinoceros species, using the information available in 2020.
