State the meaning of simple harmonic motion.

A small sphere hangs from a fixed point $P$ on a string of negligible mass, as shown in Fig. 4.1. It is displaced a small distance horizontally and then released. Fig. 4.2 shows how the horizontal velocity $v$ of the sphere varies with time.

State two times when the sphere is crossing the equilibrium position in the same direction.

Calculate the frequency of oscillation of the sphere, given that the interval between $t_{1}$ and $t_{6}$ is $2.2\,\text{s}$.

The sphere in (b) performs simple harmonic motion. Use your answer to (b)(ii) together with information from Fig. 4.2 to find the maximum displacement of the sphere from equilibrium.
