State the meaning of the Avogadro constant.
State the link between the Avogadro constant $N_A$, the molar gas constant $R$ and the Boltzmann constant $k$.
Two ideal-gas samples X and Y are both at thermodynamic temperature $T$. Sample X has volume $V$ and contains $N$ molecules, each with mass $m$. Sample Y has volume $2V$ and contains $2N$ molecules, each with mass $2m$. Complete Table 3.1 by writing expressions, using some or all of $N$, $m$, $T$, $V$ and the constants in (a)(ii), for the quantities listed.
The temperature of sample X is now changed. On Fig. 3.1, sketch how the root-mean-square (r.m.s.) speed of the gas molecules varies with thermodynamic temperature.
