Logarithmic and exponential functions — practice question

The variables $x$ and $y$ are linked by the equation $Ay = b^x$, where $A$ and $b$ are constants.
(a)[2]

Show that the graph of $\ln y$ plotted against $x$ is a straight line.

(b)[3]

For $x = 3.4$, $\ln y = 0.86$ and for $x = 5.7$, $\ln y = 2.56$. Find the value of $A$ and the value of $b$. Give your answers correct to 2 significant figures.

Worked solution & mark scheme

This 5-mark question has a full step-by-step worked solution and mark scheme. One marking point: Apply logarithms to both sides to get $\ln A+\ln y=x\ln b$.
