Nitrogenous fertilisers are widely applied in modern farming. If rainwater carries surplus fertiliser into a nearby lake, eutrophication may take place. Three stages of eutrophication are outlined below. P: Water plants on the lake bed die because they do not receive enough sunlight. Q: Algae grow excessively. R: Oxygen levels fall because bacterial activity becomes excessive. In what order do these three stages occur?
