Primary alcohols may be oxidised to aldehydes by using either acidified potassium dichromate(VI) or acidified potassium manganate(VII). These two oxidising agents both undergo colour changes as they are reduced. What colour does each oxidising agent have before the reaction, and what colour does it become after the reaction?
