Coronary artery bypass grafting is the world's most frequently carried out heart operation. Fig. 6.1 shows a diagram of a coronary bypass. The graft is a piece of healthy blood vessel. The blood vessel shown in Fig. 6.1 is the internal mammary artery. Surgeons commonly choose it because it is fairly resistant to arteriosclerosis.
