Structure of nucleic acids and replication of DNA — practice question

During interphase and mitosis in the cell cycle, the chromosomes inside a cell pass through several changes. Each chromosome consists of DNA complexed with proteins.
(a)[1]

In interphase, separate chromosomes are too diffuse (long and thin) to be seen with a microscope. At this stage, the chromosomal material is called chromatin. State the term for the proteins that are combined with DNA and form part of chromatin.

(b)[3]

Seen under a microscope, a chromosome is most clearly visible in the metaphase stage of mitosis. Complete Fig. 1.1 to make a labelled diagram of the metaphase stage of mitosis in an animal cell containing two chromosomes.

(c)[3]

Outline the changes in the structure and behaviour of a chromosome from the beginning of the S phase to the end of interphase and through prophase of mitosis.
