Haemoglobin, which is a globular protein, is made up of four polypeptide chains: two alpha chains and two beta chains. In people without the condition, the DNA that codes for each beta chain has a sixth triplet that specifies glutamic acid. In people with sickle cell anaemia, this base triplet mutates so that it codes for valine. What does this mutation alter in the haemoglobin molecule?
- Athe iron content
- Bthe primary structure
- Cthe quaternary structure
- Dthe secondary structure
